The Ohio State University Extension Master Gardener Volunteer Program provides intensive training in horticulture to interested Ohio residents, who then volunteer their time assisting with educational programs and activities for Ohio residents through their local OSU Extension county office. Volunteers are not required to have gardening skills or knowledge; but a passion for learning about gardening and sharing this knowledge with others is a must!

The Master Gardener Program provides intensive training in horticulture to interested gardeners who then volunteer their time assisting with educational programs and activities for Ohio residents through their local Ohio State University Extension county office. The Master Gardener Volunteer Program is just one of the ways OSU Extension engages with the public each year. This internationally renowned program provides interested Ohio residents with in-depth training on topics ranging from tree identification and plant health to pollinators, wildlife and garden pest management. The OSU Extension Master Gardener Volunteer Program provides intensive training in horticulture to interested Ohio resident who then volunteer their time assisting with educational programs and activities for Wood County residents through the Wood County OSU Extension office.

Working with county Extension personnel, Master Gardener Volunteers provide such educational services to their communities as: answering gardening questions from the public; conducting plant clinics; gardening activities with children, senior citizens, or disabled persons; beautifying the community; and developing community or demonstration gardens.

The Pickaway County Master Gardener Volunteer program has 37 active members. Volunteers answer questions at the Farmers Market and from the Helpline, maintain gardens at the Extension Office, the public library, Mary Virginia Crites Hannah City Park and others. We provide speakers for local groups. We train new volunteers every other year and will hold training in April 2015.
